Inthis paperwe try to study theprobability ofguessing themeaning ofwords without continuosly referring to thedictionary for translation.If this is a useful method,we can teach it to translators.The questions this research tries to answer are as follows:1)Can we differentiate the different sorts of words(simple,compound and derivational words)intranslation inaway thatwe would nottneed to continuously refer to the dictionary,and thus increase the pace of translation without damaging the process of reception?2)Can we teach this methodtotranslatorstoacceleratethe pace of their translation and promote the quality of translation?To answer these questions,we considered four passages with the subject of travel writing and extracted700content wordsfrom them.We then considered the motivation(the relation between form and meaning)in compound words and derivational words.After using statisticalmethods,we concluded thatthe number ofthe wordsthat we can gofrom form to their meaning(motivated words)both in compound and in derivational words is more than semi motivated and dark words.Therefore,in translating some texts,the translatorcan understand the meaning ofderivational and compound...
