Examination of the role of German as a foreign language textbooks for participation in standardized German exams

Abstract

The present study examines the relation between exercises and tasks in German as a foreign language textbooks and in standardized tests and examinations. The importance of course content in achieving learning goals is not hidden from anyone and the use of appropriate textbooks can lead learners to the desired goals more quickly. One of the main goals of foreign language didactics is preparation for participation in standardized German exams. This article first explains the concept of standardized tests and examinations, and then mentions the characteristics of effective learning and teaching content, including good criteria and the use of practice types, as a necessary step in pre-test preparation. And answer the basic question “What role does familiarity with the exercises in the textbook play in preparing to take standardized tests and exams?” Here, based on the catalog of criteria with an analytical approach, a contrastive comparison is made between a standardized test called ÖSD B2 and the exercises in a textbook for Pre-Intermediate Sicher B2, and finally it will show whether the exercises in this textbook offer the necessary prerequisites for general preparation of To ensure that German learners take part in standardized German tests. The result is: Sicher B2 can be a suitable textbook to create relative preparation for taking the standardized ÖSD B2 exam, provided that teachers plan the effectiveness and improvement of learning outcomes by identifying deficits and using learning content, that are consistent with the test questions and tasks.
