The aim of this study was to investigate the possible differences between the academic and the self-taught translators’ performance of English complex sentences and recognize the applied techniques through contrasting, comparing, and scoring a series of challenging complex sentences derived from six translated English novels whose translators were three academics and three self-taught, using Waddington Method C. The results, especially those gained from Mann-Whitney U Test, testified almost no differences unlike the general belief concerning the best job of the selftaught. Besides, no specific techniques were found. However, the secondary findings made the research prominent including the obvious impact of editorial skills on the quality of translation as the most significant one, which is noticeable for designing more practical teaching programs and curriculum. نظریه‌پردازان و مترجمان حرفه‌ای، همواره دربارة نقش دانشگاه یا تجربه شخصی در زمینة ترجمه اختلاف نظر داشته‌اند؛ بویژه که دانشگاه برخلاف برنامه‌ها‌ی آموزشی‌ به‌نسبت جامع‌بودنش، جوابگوی نیازهای بازار کار نبوده است. هدف این تحقیق، بررسی تفاوت‌های ممکن بین کارکرد مترجمان دانشگاهی و تجربی ایرانی در ترجمة «جمله‌های مرکب وابسته» انگلیسی و شناسایی شگردهای بکار رفته بوده است. بنابراین، از شش رمان ترجمه شدة انگلیسی، سه مترجم دانشگاهی و سه مترجم تجربی، منتخبی از چالش برانگیزترین جملات به‌«روش C ودینگتون» مقابله و مقایسه شد و نمره داده شد. طبق نتایج، بویژه آزمون «یو مان-ویتنی»، محقق گردید برخلاف باور عموم، یعنی ترجمه ‌بهتر مترجمان تجربی، عملکرد هردو گروه تقریباً یکسان بوده است؛ بعلاوه، تکنیکی خاص نیز یافت نشد، اما نتایج ثانویه تحقیق را حائز اهمیت نمود. بعنوان مهمترین دستاورد، می‌توان به‌تأثیر آشکار «مهارت ویراستاری» بر روی کیفیت ترجمه اشاره کرد که می‌تواند در طراحی برنامه‌های آموزشی کاربردی‌تر مفید واقع شود. https://jflr.ut.ac.ir/article_74581_7ff1d200dab05320f139d8d9af66abae.pdf
