These theories offer a way to understand meaning in multimodal English teaching textbooks by defining the relationships between images and their related texts. This article suggests four points through investigating three meanings (ideational, interpersonal, and textual) in the images and texts. Firstly, the investigation of the ideational meaning suggests that the relationships between images and texts are summarized in two groups including expansion and projection. Secondly, the analysis of the interpersonal meaning indicates that these relationships are summarized in two kinds of meanings, including interactive and evaluative. Thirdly, the analysis of the textual meaning shows that these relations are divided in new/given information and real/ideal information. Finally, this study highlights the importance of these semantic relations to understand multimodal texts and their impacts on the readers. هدف از این پژوهش توصیفی-تحلیلی، بررسی روابط بین تصویر و متن در کتاب‌های آموزش زبان انگلیسی کاتینگ ایج و امریکن انگلیش فایل براساس چارچوب نظریه نقش‌گرای هلیدی و نظریه نشانه-شناسی کرِس و فان لیوین است. این نظریه‌ها با مشخص کردن روابط بین تصویر‌ و متن‌، روشی را برای درک بیشتر معنا در کتاب‌های آموزشی زبان انگلیسی به زبان‌آموزان ارائه می‌دهند. این پژوهش سه معنای اندیشگانی، بینافردی و متنی را در تصاویر و متن بررسی می‌کند‌. نتایج این پژوهش در برگیرنده چند نکته می‌باشد. نخست، بررسی معنای اندیشگانی حاکی از این است که روابط بین تصاویر و متن‌ در دو گروه تفصیلی و بروز کلامی و ذهنی افکار خلاصه می‌شود. دوم، بررسی معنای بینافردی نشان می‌دهد این روابط به دو نوع معنای تعاملی و سنجشی تقسیم می‌شوند. سوم، بررسی معنای متنی رابطه‌ بین تصویر و متن را در دو گروه اطلاعات کهنه و نو، و اطلاعات واقعی و ایده‌ال تقسیم می‌کند. سرانجام، این پژوهش بر اهمیت این روابط معنایی برای فهم متن‌های چند شیوه‌ای و تاثیر آن بر مخاطب تأکید می‌کند. https://jflr.ut.ac.ir/article_62550_7b02c84c0e8e5b40d72ee3af15005b26.pdf
